Call for Editors for Special SWG Anthology

The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild is seeking published Saskatchewan writers for the positions of Managing/Genre Editor (either Prose or Poetry) and Associate Genre Editor (either Prose or Poetry) for a special edition SWG Anthology. This anthology will be a diverse and inclusive publication of short prose (fiction and nonfiction) and poetry inspired by the pandemic. This anthology will be open to all Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild members, to be published by July 1, 2021.
 

Managing & Associate Editor
The Managing & Associate Genre Editor will: 

  • Read through all submissions
  • Select pieces in your genre to include in the publication and work with the other Associate Genre Editor to determine all submissions to include in the anthology by March 15,
  • Work with the Publications Coordinator to determine the size of the publication and cover artwork
  • Notify successful contributors in your genre and all unsuccessful submissions, and collect signed contracts from contributors
  • Ensure contributors complete their edits in March & April
  • Write a Managing Editor’s Note
  • Determine the layout and order of the work in the anthology
  • Submit all final content and order of submission to the Publications Coordinator by May 3 
  • Proofread the final anthology draft
  • Attend and assist the Program Manager in planning the launch in early July, including assisting with the arrangements for readers and appropriate introductions and hosting
     

Associate Editor
The Associate Editor (either Poetry or Prose), in their respective genre, will:

  • Read through all submissions
  • Select pieces in your respective genre and work with the Managing Editor to determine all submissions to include in the anthology
  • Work with contributors in your respective genre to complete their edits in March & April
  • Write an Associate Editor’s Note
  • Submit all edited work to the Managing Editor by April 19
  • Attend and assist in the planning of the launch(es), which may include assisting with the arrangements for readers and appropriate introductions
     

The Managing and Associate Genre Editor will be paid $3,000 (plus GST) for their work and the Associate Genre Editor will be paid $1,500 (plus GST). The work will be completed between February 1 and July 15, 2021, with the launch of the publication in early July.

  • A literary CV (max of 5 pages)
     

Preference will be given to SWG members residing in Saskatchewan.
