Katherine Lawrence reading at Lumsden Public Library

Saskatoon writer Katherine Lawrence has published four poetry collections, most recently, Black Umbrella (Turnstone Press, 2022), winner of the John V Hicks Long Manuscript Award 2018. She is also the author of the verse novel for young adults, Stay. Her poetry has been published across the country and has twice been long-listed for the CBC Literary Awards.

Originally from Hamilton, Katherine has lived on the prairies for over 35 years. She is a former writer-in-residence with Saskatoon Public Library and holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Saskatchewan.

Black Umbrella is a poetic memoir that considers family dynamics at the intersection of love and loss.

Stay is a novel-in-verse that takes readers into the heart and mind of a young girl on the verge of discovering an ancient truth.
