Measure Twice/Cut Once with Gail Bowen

Join our Winter Virtual Writer-in-Residence Gail Bowen as she discusses how writers can make thoughtful decisions about the elements of writing in this interactive Zoom webinar.

Measure Twice/Cut Once

This carpenters’ adage should be your byword as you begin writing. Whether you’re writing fiction, non-fiction, a play or a poem, knowing what you hope to achieve with your work and how you can best use the elements of your craft to reach your goal is essential. This discussion will focus on strategies for making thoughtful decisions about choosing the right title and the right protagonist, and creating secondary characters with beating hearts who play an essential role in your story. We’ll also discuss the importance of choosing a setting that will allow you to say what you want to say about being a human being. Finally, we will explore strategies for creating a plot that will go the distance and for pacing your plot so you’ll make it over the finish line.

This free talk is open to any interested writer. Eligible SWG members can consult Gail about their writing during her VWIR term: to find out more about this service, visit our website.
