Writers/Artists Retreats

Retreats provide quiet refuge where authors and artists can come together to practice their craft. The SWG hosts retreats in the Winter and Summer providing uninterrupted working time along with opportunities for thought-provoking exchange of ideas with others.

Grain Magazine

The SWG’s internationally recognized literary quarterly.

Patricia Armstrong Fund

Brings writers to rural areas of the province to conduct workshops.

Andrew Suknaski Writers’ Assistance Fund

Provides financial support to writers in need. Founded by senior members of the SWG and supported by donations, the Fund is administered by the Executive Director of the SWG.

About the SWG Foundation

Founded in 2005, the SWG Foundation is the supporting arm of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild (SWG). Donations to the Foundation provide financial assistance towards the future of the SWG and all its programs and operations as well as projects undertaken by affiliate organizations and individuals approved by the SWG Board of Directors.

When you give to the SWG Foundation, you are making a commitment to the future of writing in Saskatchewan. Your gift allows for long-term planning and assures funds are available for legacy projects and bursaries.

You can choose one-time, monthly or yearly options. Another way to support the SWG and leave a lasting legacy is choosing to remember the SWG in your Will. If you are considering this option, please contact SWG Executive Director to set up after discussing with your lawyer or estate planner.

General Fund

Gifts donated to this fund will be used as necessary to support SWG programs, publications, and awards. Because of your generosity, programs like the Poet Laureate and Manuscript Evaluation Service gain stability and longevity.

Facilitated Retreat Endowment

The Facilitated Retreat Endowment provides funds for ongoing operating costs for the SWG’s Facilitated Retreat for Emerging Writers.

Judy McCrosky Bursary Fund

The Judy McCrosky Bursary Fund provides an annual bursary to an emerging writer who wishes to attend the SWG Winter Retreat. The bursary awarded is equivalent to the cost of one-week attendance at the retreats.

The Anne Campbell Memorial Scholarship

The Anne Campbell Memorial Scholarship provides one recipient with $500 for the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild Summer Retreat.  The scholarship is intended for an emerging Saskatchewan writer working on poetry or short stories. 

John V. Hicks Scholarship

The John V. Hicks Scholarship provides one recipient with $300 for the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild’s Winter Writers/Artists Retreat. The scholarship is intended for a mid-career writer working on poetry for a minimum two-week stay at the Winter Retreat. 

Doris Hillis Scholarship

The Doris Hillis Scholarship provides one recipient with registration fees for the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild’s Facilitated Retreat. The scholarship is intended for a developing BIPOC Saskatchewan writer working on creating poetry or drama.
