The SWG Annual Conference and AGM is held in late October, alternating between the cities of Regina and Saskatoon. Our conference is designed for both emerging and established Saskatchewan writers, as well as brand-new and long-standing SWG members: please join us to learn more about the craft of writing, meet new writers and catch up with old friends! We welcome all members to attend our Annual General Meeting to help the Guild conduct important business.
Our conference programming includes:
- The Caroline Heath Memorial lecture, offered by a Canadian writer
- The John V Hicks Long Manuscript Awards ceremony in the rotating genres of poetry, fiction and nonfiction
- Engaging talks and panels by Saskatchewan and Canadian writers
- Interactive workshops on the craft of writing in different genres
- Intentional social and community building activities like Fast Friends: Building Connections and the Community Stage Open Mic
- The SWG Annual General Meeting
These events are offered in-person, with some events like the Caroline Heath Memorial lecture also livestreamed, recorded and available on our YouTube channel for 30 days.
We implement a variety of measures to ensure our conference is accessible to all writers, including offering select events free of charge, livestream and recording these events for free, hosting in a physically accessible venue near public transportation, using a microphone, asking presenters for visual self-IDs and read-along materials (if appropriate), as well as online measures like auto-captions and read-along.
We operate a book table during our conference, which sells books by presenters and SWG members. Any attending SWG member is welcome to bring books to sell on consignment.
Our next Conference will be in Saskatoon on October 24 & 24, 2025. Please watch our website for full information about the next conference, as well as links to register!
