Book Bytes is a lunchtime, online reading series that showcases and celebrates the work of Saskatchewan authors of diverse genres, identities, and experience levels through 15-minute bite-sized readings.

We are seeking event hosts! You do not need to write in any specific genre to host the event. Selected hosts are paid $100 per event. Priority given to people based in SK. Hosts will be provided speaking notes and will introduce themselves, the event, and the readers while keeping the event on time. All technical aspects of the event will be handled by the SWG.

Two events are offered. Events run from 12:00-1:00 p.m.-SK time and include three readers per event. Event dates this year are:

• September 10
• September 17

Please note: events will be broadcast and recorded via Zoom webinar and will be uploaded to YouTube through a private, unlisted link following the event for 30 days. These videos will not be posted publicly or livestreamed to any platform, but registered participants and presenters will receive the video link. 

Application process

Individuals who would like to host and are available to attend live (via Zoom) are encouraged to apply by June 9 at 11:59 p.m. by sharing a paragraph indicating:

• Your full name, mailing address, phone number
• Your experience(s) hosting an event (online or in-person)
• If you’re comfortable using Zoom
• Why you want to host a Book Bytes event
• if you are a Saskatchewan resident, and
• the date(s) you are applying for. Please indicate your first and second choice in dates that you are available to read.

To help the SWG support writers of diverse communities and identities, we encourage applicants to self-declare if they identify as a writer who is a member of group(s) experiencing marginalization and underrepresentation. (i.e. Black, Indigenous, or Person of Colour, 2SLGBTQ+, or Disability). This information will only be used internally.
