Call for Workshop Proposals

The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild is seeking proposals for online professional development workshops from Canadian-based writers to offer between October 2026 and June 2027. We are looking for ideas and facilitators who are willing and comfortable using Zoom to offer workshops on the craft or business of writing. We are planning virtual workshops through Zoom.

The SWG’s Professional Development workshop series focuses on the craft and business of writing. Its goal is to offer skill development for beginning, emerging, or established writers by established writers from a diversity of genres and backgrounds.

Our interactive online workshops are single-session workshops that are 2 hours long with a short break in the middle.

We appreciate workshops that are open to 25 participants, but the number of participants may range from 8-25, depending on the session.

Workshops are interactive, meaning the facilitator and participants will be in a Zoom meeting room and will see and hear each other. Interactive sessions may include group discussion, writing prompts, activities, polls, breakout rooms, PowerPoint (or similar technology) presentations, or more.

We invite proposals for online workshops to complement the sessions the SWG already has planned. We are open to proposals that relate to all other topics on the craft and business of writing in all genres that aren’t mentioned below, but we are particularly interested in proposals that address:

Craft of writing

  • fiction in all lengths and genres (including literary, YA, children’s, romance, thriller, horror, fantasy, crime, etc.)
  • poetry and/or spoken word
  • personal essay
  • hybrid writing
  • script writing (plays and/or screenplays),
  • comics/graphic novels, or other forms

Business of writing

  • accounting and income tax,
  • self-employment and incorporation,
  • marketing and promotion,
  • publishing (short- and long-form),
  • query letters (for agents, publishers, and/or others),
  • building your literary CV

Renumeration is $350 for a 2-hour workshop session.

Preference will be given to proposals that fit the goals of the professional development workshops and are offered by writers residing in Saskatchewan who are representative of a diversity of ideas and identities. Out-of-province applicants must explain their connections to the Saskatchewan writing community in their application. The SWG values original and human-generated ideas and content and we do not accept proposals that were written, developed, or assisted with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. The SWG reserves the right to reject any proposal.

The SWG strongly encourages Indigenous writers, Black writers, writers of colour, disabled writers, gender non-conforming writers, 2SLGBTQIA+ writers, and writers who are otherwise affected by structural inequality to submit workshop proposals.

In your proposal, please include:

  1. Name and contact info (email, mailing address, phone)
  2. Title, description and brief outline of workshop (maximum 750 words)
  3. Preferred number of participants (Between 8-25)
  4. Your Artist CV (please include teaching experience) (Max 5 pages)
  5. Your experience with offering online workshops or classes
  6. Your biography (100 words max)
  7. If you reside outside of Saskatchewan, please explain your connections to the SK writing community.
  8. If you have accessibility requirements for yourself or participants that you would like us to include when planning the workshop.
  9. We encourage applicants to self-declare if they identify as a writer who is affected by structural inequality. (i.e., writers who are Indigenous, Black, or writers of colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, gender non-conforming, disabled, etc.)

Proposals must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026. Please email your proposal to swgevents@skwriter.com.
