Deviance is an heirloom: a writing workshop with Shayna Stock

Deviance is an heirloom

A fragment is an invitation to duet. When a branch is severed, what can we grow there instead? What seeds did our ancestors plant and how can we tend them? In this generative writing workshop, you'll write from the art, words and stories of queer people from history. We'll play at locating ourselves in a lineage of deviance, creativity, resistance and desire. Followed by a short introductory talk, the workshop will focus on providing inspiration and time for participants to write.

This program is conducted through Zoom. Register through the RPL website to receive a reminder, the evaluation and any resource materials. If you don’t have a valid Saskatchewan library card (from all regional libraries) and would like to register, please email programs@reginalibrary.ca with your contact information and the program you are interested.

This workshop is open to the public and free.

This program is offered in celebration of Pride Month and in partnership with the Regina Public Library and the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild.

Shayna Stock (she/they) grew up on the shores of Lake Huron and now lives in Regina/Treaty 4. They write about queer lineage, belonging, family and deviance. Shayna has performed spoken word at venues across the country, and their poetry has been published in Room, Foglifter, Grain, CV2 and elsewhere. When she’s not writing poems, she’s writing policies, swimming anywhere, cuddling dogs, and loving big.
