The Art of Story: From Grandmothers to Granddaughters

 

Welcome to the second week of our storytelling adventure! Come and listen to SWG’s second storyteller, Harmony Johnson-Harder! Through spoken word and story, Harmony shares stories passed down from her grandmother and parents, alongside her own reflections as a contemporary storyteller. This session invites participants into the art of storytelling across generations, blending tradition, personal truth, and creative expression.

Harmony Johnson-Harder is a Cree Métis storyteller, artist, and expressive arts facilitator based in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Her work draws on stories passed down by her grandmother, woven together with her own lived experience. Blending traditional and contemporary approaches, Harmony shares stories through voice, visual art, and reflection, inviting others to connect with their own storylines and cultural memory.

Julianna McLean is a nehiyaw Hungarian writer from James Smith Cree Nation.

With the support of the Arts and Science Indigenous Masters Students Scholarships, Julianna obtained her MFA in writing from the University of Saskatchewan; she also has a background in Indigenous Education and Kinesiology. Julianna’s MFA thesis is a compilation of short stories and poetry that focus on her grandparents and mother’s residential / day school experiences, and Julianna’s intergenerational survivor story. Julianna has poetry published in the anthology Where I’m from 2014.
