In order to help mark Saskatchewan Library Week (October 13-19th), author Cliff Burns has been invited to speak at the North Battleford Public Library on the theme of "Telling Stories in a Post-Truth Era".
Science and experts are under siege, the intelligentsia discredited and the lunatics are in charge of the asylum our society has become. What role does the writer have in bringing some sense of order to a tumultuous world...and what happens to the notion of "fiction" when so many of us can no longer distinguish between authoritative sources, misinformation and deliberate distortion? How can we have civil discourse on vital issues when the public sphere has become so toxic, the gulf between us widening?
A presentation, followed by a discussion/Q and A. All ages welcome
