The Business of Authorship with Pam Robertson Rivet

Developing your writing skills is about more than writing the very best book you can, especially if you want to have a career at it. Pam made loads of mistakes, but despite a rough start and some tougher stuff to follow, she found that being a single mom nurturing inter-generational as well as personal trauma gave her lots to write about! She also invested heavily in herself to get through university, meet the right mentors, and become a best-selling author with a comprehensive business.

Takeaways:

  • Answer how many books/writing projects does it take to make a living as an author?
  • Decide whether you write as a hobby, side hustle, or a full-time gig.
  • Develop your personalized writing practice that turns into books that outperform your wildest imagination.
  • Learn to sell enough books to pay taxes – willingly!
  • Write a framework for your business and marketing plan (if desired)

Workshop Facilitator

Pam Robertson Rivet’s love affair with books started early, and her career as a writer was locked in by a ghostwriting gig during sixth grade. She's not just an author; she's a passionate advocate for continuous learning and the power of happenstance theory. Pam has over 200 publishing credits, including the "Morgan Winfeld" four-book series (featuring a Canadian spy who defies stereotypes!), Maggie’s Song, Finding Felicity, Legacy Keeper: A Journal for Quilters and Knitters. Pam brings vibrant energy, sharp insights, and a touch of entertainment to each stage and classroom she is in. Beyond the page, she's a driving force in author and craft communities, inspiring people to write, make, and create as a path to improved mental health and stronger communities.
