Tânsi Talk with Eden Fineday & Lori Deets

 

Through sharing stories from her own life, Eden will talk about shifting paradigms and living as a Cree person in so-called Canada. Her passions include reclaiming narrative sovereignty for Indigenous people in the media and inserting her worldview into her storytelling. She’ll share about her work with IndigiNews, an award-winning, Indigenous-led media outlet. Eden will be joined by host, Lori Deets.

Eden Fineday is a nehiyaw iskwew (Cree woman) from the Sweetgrass First Nation in Treaty 6 territory. She is a writer, songwriter, and the publisher of IndigiNews, where she leads a team that is decolonizing the media landscape with their trauma-informed approaches. She endeavours to be a good relation as an uninvited guest on the territories of the xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqeum), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples

Lori Deets is a Cree woman born in Northern Saskatchewan bus was taken from her family at a young age as a result of the 60’s scoop. Lori was raised in southern Saskatchewan and has predominately lived in Moose Jaw. Shas recently relocated to Regina from Education opportunities for her and her son.  

Lori is currently a student at First Nations University of Canada she has completed an Indigenous Communications Diploma and is working on a Bachelor of Indigenous Fine Arts.  

Lori has experience with journalism in print, radio, and podcasting. Lori is the Chair of the Wakamow Aboriginal Community Association where she works with the community bringing in opportunities for cultural and educational learning. Through Lori’s vast experiences in life, she has become a skilled advocate, and voice for people experiencing homelessness and living in inadequate, unaffordable, and inaccessible housing.  

Lori has been able to combine her life experiences, her gifts and strengths and her desire to learn and grow to build a supportive life. She is passionate about sharing her strengths with others and teaching them to do the same.
