Chantal Kyplain, known by her pen name metaphorgirl, is a proud Métis poet and mother of two, born and raised in Saskatoon with deep roots in Île-à-la-Crosse (Sakitawak), Saskatchewan. Her work explores the layered realities of Indigenous womanhood—moving through themes of motherhood, identity, grief, love, healing, and reclamation. She writes from lived experience, turning memory into meaning and survival into story.
Chantal is the self-published author of Fragments of Her, a deeply personal collection of poetry. Her work has also been featured in the APTN Indigenous History Month Anthology. She has performed at open mic nights in Saskatoon and brought poetry back to the North by organizing and hosting a community poetry night in her home territory of Île-à-la-Crosse.
As metaphorgirl, Chantal believes storytelling is a form of medicine—a way to carry what words were once never allowed to hold. Her voice is honest, unflinching, and rooted in love for her people, her children, and the generations to come.
