Background

The SWG funds and supports Grain - an award-winning literary publication. In 50 years, Grain has featured numerous prose and poetry writers and visual artists from Canada and around the world.

In addition to subscriptions, funding for Grain comes from the Canada Council for the Arts, Sask Lotteries, and the Cheryl and Henry Kloppenburg Foundation. Through these funding sources, the SWG supports paying contributors, a Managing Editor, two Associate Editors, a Proofreader and the costs to print and distribute the publication four times a year. Each year, as the costs of producing a publication of Grain's calibre increases, the SWG is faced with swelling financial challenges.

A sense of urgency

Print costs are rising considerably each year and our revenue stream is not keeping pace  As well, subscriptions are not increasing year over year. As a result, Grain is operating with a deficit each year and is in grave danger of not being able to continue as is.

How you can help

During the month of November, we are running a fundraising campaign to not only raise additional funds but to increase subscriptions and renewals. Our goal is to raise $5000.00 and increase subscriptions by 10%. Any amount you give will be greatly appreciated and amounts over $10 receive a tax receipt.

If you have ever read Grain, contributed to it, been an editor, or know someone who has, please consider donating, or subscribing between Nov 1- 30. All new subscriptions during this time will receive a FREE anniversary issue of Grain, and all renewals will receive a FREE Grain tote bag.
