The SWG was saddened to learn of the death of one of our founding members, Jean Freeman. Jean held a special place in the SWG and was awarded with a Lifetime membership. In 2019, Jean joined other lifetime members on a panel at the SWG conference to reflect on the early days of the SWG.
Among many accomplishments in Jean's life, Jean wrote several children's books, including Wascana Wild Goose Chase and Do Trees Sneeze? Also, Fists Upon a Star: A Memoir of Love, Theatre and Escape from McCarthyism (University of Regina Press) co-authored with the late Florence James. One of Jean's proudest accomplishments was co-authoring the brief which preserved Saskatchewan House (now Government House) for generations to come.
A celebration of Jean's life is planned for the future. Read full obituary here.
