Bookkeeper

The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild is looking to fill the position of part-time Bookkeeper.

 

The Bookkeeper is responsible for ensuring accountability for all funds of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild (SWG) and the SWG Foundation Inc. (SWGF). This part-time position provides essential support to a provincial non-profit arts organization, working closely with a team of creative professionals who produce diverse programming and services for over 650 provincial and national members.

 

Applicants should be a graduate of a recognized accounting program and/or have extensive experience in general accounting (non-profit preferred). Experience with Sage 50 Accounting is an asset.

 

Working Conditions:

The SWG bookkeeper will work out of the Regina office. The SWG office hours are from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm, and the bookkeeping workweek will range between 15-20 hours; core hours and days are flexible but contingent on office hours. The work is mainly keyboarding at a desk/standing desk. The SWG office is physically accessible.

 

The SWG offers a benefits package, including a matched pension, medical and dental. The salary range for the position, based on 20 hours a week, is $29,120-$33,280.

General Information

Purpose

The Bookkeeper for the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild (SWG) ensures accountability for all funds of the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild (SWG) and the SWG Foundation Inc. (SWGF). This is a part-time position and provides support to a provincial non-profit arts organization, which offers numerous programs and services for writers throughout Saskatchewan.

 

General Description

The Bookkeeper is responsible for financial data entry and maintaining financial transactions of the organization, including, but not limited to, payables, receivables, investments, and other financial records. The Bookkeeper employs accurate monetary recording and data entry to support the SWG and the SWGF’s financial accountability. The Bookkeeper reports directly to the Executive Director. The Executive Director reviews their performance.

 

Key proficiencies:

  • Experience with financial data management through the Sage 50 Accounting system
  • Experience with invoices, receipts, and bank reconciliations
  • Knowledge of non-profit audit preparation
  • Knowledge of non-profit reporting and accounting procedures
  • Familiarity with regulations and reporting for non-profits

 

Key Responsibilities

Administrative

  • Ensures accurate financial data records of SWG’s and SWGF’s financial transactions, including all payables, revenues, and other obligations
  • Administers all financial transactions, prepares and processes payments
  • Prepares monthly reconciliations for all accounts
  • Follows and maintains effective internal controls
  • Assists in forecasting budget expenditures.

 

General

  • Participates and contributes to strategic and operational decisions of the SWG
  • Supports the development of a strong staff team within the SWG

 

Reporting

  • Prepares financial statements and reports for review by the Executive Director, committees, and staff as requested
  • Prepares annual financial statements and ensures that supporting documentation is organized and available for the annual audit
  • Responsible for filing GST/PST reporting and reports under the Charities Act
  • Assists staff in the preparation of grant applications and follow-up reports. Prepares the financial components for grant applications as required.
  • Ensures all SWG financial activities are compliant with policies and procedures and with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
