The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild is pleased to announce the recipients of the two scholarship/bursary opportunities at the SWG Winter Writers’ Retreat.

The Judy McCrosky Bursary provides an emerging Saskatchewan writer with program fees for one week’s retreat and is awarded at both the Winter and Summer Retreats.

Credence McFadzean is the Winter 2024 recipient. Credence is a fiction writer from Regina, Saskatchewan who teaches English and Creative Writing at Luther College at the University of Regina. He's currently working on a manuscript inspired by the mythmaking of American slasher films.

The John V. Hicks Scholarship provides a recipient with $300 for the Winter Retreats and is intended for a mid-career writer working on poetry for a minimum two-week stay at the Winter Retreat.

The recipient for Winter 2024 is dee Hobsbawn-Smith. dee has published ten books in a variety of genres. During the SWG’s annual writing retreat at St. Peter’s Abbey retreat in 2024, she will be working on two poetry manuscripts. One is a collection dealing with grief and mourning, and the second addresses the life and issues (including grief and mourning!) of famed American prose writer MFK Fisher. dee is grateful to the SWG for its ongoing and active support of writers and writing in Saskatchewan.

The SWG’s Winter 2024 Writers’ Retreats will be held at St. Peter’s Abbey in Muenster from February 9-23, 2024. More information about the retreats and these scholarships is available at https://skwriter.com/retreats/writer-and-artist-retreats.
