October 22 - 24, 2020

The SWG Annual Fall Conference and AGM are planned for October 22-24, 2020. The theme of our conference is Inventing the Future; an apt theme as we navigate new ways of learning and being together as a writing community. Our conference will look a bit different that “usual” this year, due to current health restrictions.

We are planning a conference that will be a mix of online programming and small in-person events in Regina. Some highlights of our program include:

  • The 2020 Hicks Long Manuscript Awards in Nonfiction will be awarded in a small, invitation-only event on Thursday October 22
  • Our Small Talk Series are recorded online presentations by prominent Canadian writers on elements of writing in various genres. Our presenters include Lorna Crozier, Cheylene Knight, Cassidy McFadzean, Jana G Pruden, Waubgeshig Rice, Eugene Stickland, Ayalet Tsabari, and more!
  • Trevor Cole, an acclaimed writer of fiction, nonfiction and journalism, will present the 2020 Caroline Heath Memorial Lecture (to be livestreamed) and offer an interactive writing workshop on developing characters.

We are offering conference attendees the opportunity to submit their work to one of our Conference Virtual Writers-in-Residence, who will be available to discuss your writing between Oct 22-24.

We hope to plan our usual in-person conference in Saskatoon in October 2021. During this time of COVID-19, the safety of our members, board and staff are very important to us. We are watching current government guidelines closely, and will plan any gatherings to be compliant with health regulations.

More conference details will be released later this summer.
