Program Intern—Student Work Placement

The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild has been fortunate to receive funding to hire a cultural intern through a Cultural Human Resources Council program. We are accepting applications from current university students in the Humanities for a Program Intern. This position is intended to create a meaningful first-work experience and the position is 15-22 hours per week, with flexible hours (some evening and weekend work may be required), for a term position at $17.50 per hour, commencing July 18, 2022, and ending March 31, 2023.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Must be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution and program and an active student
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
  • Willing to commit to the full duration of the internship

 

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Program Manager, Programmers, and the Editors of SWG publications in developing virtual/and or in-person programming including:

 

  • Assisting SWG programs and services including the SWG’s annual conference, processing submissions for SWG awards and publications, Writing North and Talking Fresh festivals, mentorship programs, and retreats, publishing support for SWG publications, including Grain, and supporting professional development workshops, craft talks and readings.
  • Assisting in building resource databases, researching organizations with similar mandates, researching BIPOC programming, administrative support, database entry/management, reading/screening submissions, and general office duties
  • Website resource and social media development, including disseminating communications for all social media channels

 

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with writing programs and events throughout Saskatchewan
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience in organizing meetings/events is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with literary magazines
  • Independent worker and team player
  • Education and/or experience in writing and the arts
  • Experience in developing cultural programming is considered an asset
  • Awareness of First Nations & Métis cultures
  • Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter and online forums)
  • Experience with research and collection of data is considered an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of basic computer skills and Office suite, including Word, and Excel.
