Roll For Initiative: Queer and Trans Storytelling in an Age of Dragons
Being queer and trans can be a battle of epic proportions, but it's also the adventure of a lifetime (with hidden treasure and experience boosts). This online creative writing seminar will focus on elements of both tabletop and digital role-playing games which can infuse queer and trans writing: deep and customizable characterization, creative world-building, narrative storytelling, and sly problem-solving. All skills which we, as queer and trans people, have developed just by existing. Don't just work on a manuscript. Start a campaign, and craft your own defiant, miraculous world.
Jes Battis teaches literature and creative writing at the University of Regina. They are the author of The Winter Knight and the Occult Special Investigator series, as well as the poetry book I Hate Parties. Their work has been shortlisted for a Saskatchewan Book Award, a Sunburst Award, and the Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize, and they are the winner of an Independent Publisher's Award and an Indie Foreword Award.
