Barbara Langhorst's first novel, Want, was published by Palimpsest Press in October, 2018. It went on to be shortlisted for the Regina Public Library Book of the Year Award (2019). Her reading tour for this book took her across SK, AB, ON, and Vancouver Island, and she was interviewed on radio, television, and online. Her debut book of poetry, restless white fields (NeWest 2012), won the Saskatchewan Arts Board Poetry Book of the Year Award in Saskatchewan and the Robert Kroetsch Poetry Book of the Year Award in Alberta. It was also listed as one of the top books of poetry for 2012 on DUSIE. Her poetry has been aired on CBC Radio's SoundXchange, and she was interviewed on Blue Sky.This first collection took her to read from Vancouver to Ottawa.
In her twenty-six-year career as an instructor, editor, arts worker, and mentor, Langhorst has been honoured to win three teaching awards. She and her husband have now moved back to Edmonton to be near family. She teaches creative writing and first-year English at MacEwan University. Her second novel, The Winter-Blooming Tree, was released in Oct. 2021, and she had the honour of reading from it at the Festival of Words in Moose Jaw in July 2023.
