Bob Bartel

Having been raised in Waldheim, Sask. and spending most of my adult life in Saskatoon, the prairie has been a big influence on my perspective and outlook. Another major influence has been our families two three year terms with the Mennonite Central Committee in Jamaica (1979-82) and Labrador (1986-89).

My first book is a children's picture book entitled Nutaui's Cap. It is published by Running the Goat Books and Broadsides from Tors Cove, Newfoundland. The story originates in Labrador and is a true story of a child in the midst of the Innu protests against the NATO low-level flights over their land. It is beautifully illustrated by Mary Ann Penashue, the acclaimed Iinu artist.

Most of the stories I write are made for picture books, although I've written some novels for Middle Grades.
