Karen Berglund

Karen Berglund was born and raised in Saskatchewan.  She is a retired educator who lives in Moosomin, SK with her husband Glenn.  With three adult children now grown and flown the nest, Karen has replenished her nest with three of the world’s quirkiest Pomeranians.  She uses her 32 years of teaching experience to craft literary adventures that children, parents, and teachers will love.  She puts great care into her best-selling and award-winning children’s books.  Highly engaging and interactive, Karen’s children’s books are known to have hidden clues in the illustrations.  Besides writing children’s stories, Karen has presented author visits and creative writing workshops to students from K-12 in schools and libraries on the Canadian prairies and in the United States.  Karen Berglund also enjoys her more recent role as an author coach, empowering others who dream of writing a children’s book and making it a reality.

Her first children's book entitled They Call Me Quirky is written from a tiny Pomeranian's point of view.  Besides exploring the concept of perspective, young readers are challenged to guess the real name of the dog before the end of the story by watching for clues in the illustrations.  The story is packed literary elements like synonyms and above else, humour! Perspective, acceptance of self, and acceptance of others is presented by a fun, furry fuzzball who let's everyone know it's O.K to be yourself.

Written in rhyme, Karen's second children's book Amos THE Famous is about a very impulsive bear who dreams BIG by becoming a magician!  Despite not knowing ANY magic tricks, Amos starts his magic show anyway!  Through unexpected twists and turns, the forest animals witness the most amazing magic show they have ever seen! Check back in the illustrations to find out what was really happening behind the scenes. Amos reinforces social skills and important life lessons to children in a most magical way. Karen has been known to have a few magic tricks up her sleeve during her presentations.
