Monica Goertzen Hertlein

Monica is an accountant, sociologist, and debut author. She always wanted to write, but never thought it was a real job. After career and family, she returned to her childhood passion and writes the stories she loves to read: women having adventures and falling in love. Her debut novel Star-Crossed Alliance is a romantasy/science fiction. Her next novel, a women's fiction set in 1980s Saskatoon, is scheduled for release in February, 2026.

Monica has been published in Impulse, Embark, Swords & Sorceries: Tales of Heroic Fantasy Volume 8, Spaceports and Spidersilk, AnotherRealm, and The Lorelei Signal. Her flash fiction has been published by Best of CafeLit 14, AntipodeanSF, and Micromance. Her entries to the Writers of the Future contest won Silver Honourable Mention and Honourable Mention. She twice placed 1st in the Saskatoon Writers' Club semi-annual contests judged by award-winning Saskatchewan authors. She has been invited to read at a farewell event for two Saskatoon library Writers-in-Residence.

She is a member of the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, Saskatoon Writers’ Club Inc., and Women’s Fiction Writers Association. Monica grew up, resides, and writes in Saskatoon, on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis.
