Getting that Grant! Workshop for Writers-- SK Arts Independent Artist Grant

The SK Arts Independent Artists programs provide grants of up to $18,000 to support writers’ creative work, research and professional development. Both emerging and established writers and spoken word artists can apply for support to attend retreats and writing programs, devote time to their writing projects, travel to undertake manuscript research or independently publish their literary books.

The Independent Artists Spring deadline is coming up on March 15th so there’s still time to apply!

SK Arts Program Consultant Joanne Gerber will introduce the program, walk through the process of preparing a compelling application, explain terms and share insight on what review panels and juries need to know and what will throw them off.

Learn how best to present your project to improve your chances of getting that grant!

Joanne will answer questions after her presentation.

Joanne Gerber has been a Program Consultant with SKArts since 2005, except for a two-year contract as a Program Officer for the Canada Council for the Arts. At the Canada Council Joanne was responsible for the Frankfurt 2020 Translation Incentive while serving as a Literary Program Officer in Arts Abroad, Arts Across Canada and Supporting Artistic Practice.  At SK Arts, she administers grants programs for Saskatchewan literary artists, organizations, festivals and publishers as well as three Access Copyright Foundation grants programs for the Canadian writing and publishing sector.  Joanne worked with Indigenous writers for fourteen years to develop the Indigenous Editors Circle and Editing Indigenous Manuscripts programs.

Prior to arts administration, Joanne worked as an in-house editor for Coteau Books. She is working on a novel to follow her story collection In the Misleading Absence of Light and has collaborated with Regina composer David L. McIntyre on a chamber opera and two song cycles.
