spring Vol 14: Call for Editor Applications

 

The SWG is accepting applications for the positions of spring vol. 14 Managing and Associate Genre Editor and Associate Genre Editor. spring magazine is the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild’s bi-annual magazine that showcases poetry, short fiction and non-fiction by emerging Saskatchewan writers.

 

Managing and Associate Genre Editor
The Managing and Associate Genre Editor will be responsible for Managing Editor duties as well as Associate Genre Editor duties in either Poetry or Prose. 

  • Read through all submissions
  • Select pieces in your genre to include in the publication and work with the Associate Editor to determine the number of submissions to include in the publication
  • Work with the Publications Coordinator to determine the size of the publication, artwork and theme
  • Notify successful contributors in your genre and collect signed contracts from contributors
  • Work with contributors to complete edits of their pieces for publication
  • Work with the Associate Editor to ensure contributors complete their edits
  • Coordinate the order of the work in the magazine and proofread the magazine
  • Submit all edited work to the Publication Coordinator by the deadline 
  • Write a Managing Editor’s Note
  • Attend and assist the SWG in planning two launches – one in Regina and one in Saskatoon – in April, including planning the program and performing hosting duties.

 

The Managing and Associate Genre Editor will be paid $1,500 (plus GST) for their work and reimbursed for travel expenses to attend the launches.

 

Associate Genre Editor
The Associate Genre Editor (either poetry or prose) will:

  • Read through all submissions in their genre
  • Work with the Managing Editor on selecting pieces for the magazine
  • Contact successful contributors in their genre and collect signed contracts from contributors
  • Work with contributors to complete edits of their pieces for publication
  • Submit all edited work to the Managing Editor by a predetermined deadline
  • Work with the Managing Editor for the layout and order of the work in the magazine
  • Write an Associate Editor’s Note
  • Attend the two launches – one in Regina and one in Saskatoon – in April and perform hosting duties.

The Associate Genre Editor will be paid $1,000 (plus GST) and reimbursed for travel expenses to attend the launches.  

 

The work will be completed between September 2023 and March 2024, with a launch in April.

 

Preference for both editorial positions will be given to Saskatchewan residents. Successful candidates must not have held spring editorial positions in the past two volumes (vol 13 – 2022 and vol 12 – 2021).
