Dan was born at Eston,Sask. on August 12/49 and lived on his grandfather's homestead until his family moved to Tyner, Sask. where the school was located. After grade 8 he went by school bus to Eston High School, where he graduated in 1967, then on to university in Saskatoon where he completed a BEd in education, a BA in economics, a PGD (Post Graduate Diploma) in educational administration and an MEd in administration. His masters thesis was written on policy governance. Dan has a love for "life long learning" and says " Education is the Greatest Equalizer in our Society". Dan tries to be an analytical "truth seeker" in a complex world of half-truths, misinformation and lies. His career interests have been as a farmer, educator, economist, board member and author.
Dan worked with the Saskatchewan Land Bank, the Saskatchewan Farm Ownership Board, the National Farmers Union, the Federal-Provincial Agreement on Rural Development and Meadow Lake School Division and Co-op Hail. He has served as a board member with the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission, the Sask. Crown Land Tenants Association, The Saskatoon Public School Board, the Sask.School Boards Association, the Sask. Assessment Management Agency, the U of S Senate, the Western Grains Research Foundation, Agriculture in the Classroom and the Primrose Economic Development Corporation.
Dan and wife Sharon along with their two active boys worked on and off the farm, to establish and sustain a successful family farm business. They now own a retirement home in Saskatoon and have a cottage at Hitchcock Bay resort on Lake Diefenbaker. The boys are grown and have university educations, fine wives and active families of their own. Dan enjoys his retirement by writing books and attending at related speaking events and coffee rows as well as learning from and helping other writers. He looks forward to his new membership in the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild.
