Leona Theis

Leona Theis writes novels, short stories and creative nonfiction. Her work has won awards and been shortlisted across Canada. She is a winner of the CBC Literary Award and two Saskatchewan Book Awards. Her collection of interlocking stories, Sightlines, presents a portrait of a small town. Her most recent full-length book, The Art of Salvage, a novel set in Saskatoon, is about messing up and finding hope. Leona was born and raised in Saskatchewan. Every once in a while she goes off to live Elsewhere, but right now she lives in Saskatoon with her husband and son. Her work has been described as "funny and sad at the same time." Sort of like life. She is grateful to playwright Colleen Murphy for reminding her (as an attendee at a Writers Guild conference session) that our responsibility as writers is to delve. She balances her work as a writer with freelance editing work and with mentoring emerging writers. Leona's favourite places to write are the Broadway Roastery in Saskatoon, St. Peter's Abbey in Meunster SK and a lakeside cabin in the boreal forest.
