Linda Mikolayenko

Linda Mikolayenko is a storyteller who loves the oral tradition and her red boots. She specializes in folk tales and legends from the Ukrainian tradition, but enjoys stories from around the world. She has told stories to audiences of all ages at schools, libraries and festivals in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, Nova Scotia and New York State. She has performed at the Winnipeg International Storytelling Festival, Ottawa Storytelling Festival and the Toronto Festival of Storytelling. Linda is a member of Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada, and was selected to represent the organization in 2004 during Canadian Children’s Book Week, when she toured communities in Alberta. That same year, she received a project grant from the Canada Council of the Arts to produce a series of storytelling radio broadcasts, and was awarded the Roger Charest Sr. Award for Broadcast & Media Arts for “Beyond the Blue Mirror”. In 2001, she was invited to present a paper at the University College of Cape Breton Storytelling Symposium, an excerpt of which was later published in the Globe and Mail. In addition to the Globe and Mail, her writing has been published in a variety of newspapers and magazines, including Reader’s Digest and Prairies North. A story and poem appear in the anthology, Kobzar’s Children: A Century of Untold Ukrainian Stories. She is currently a member of the La Ronge Wild Rice Writers Group and the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild. Her work has also been broadcast on a variety of regional and national CBC Radio shows, as well as several community radio stations. Linda presently lives in Air Ronge, Saskatchewan.
