Maureen was born in Saskatoon, but grew up in Edmonton and Calgary. She returned to Saskatchewan in 1976 to attend university in her birthplace, and has essentially never left! In Lampman,her home since 1980, sports are religion, and Maureen can usually be found worshiping at hockey rinks, football stadiums or ball diamonds throughout the province. Maureen's first novel Power Plays (Coteau Books) won the Independent Publishers' Moonbeam Award and was nominated for three Saskatchewan Book Awards (2009). It was nominated for the Snow Willow and Stellar (BC Young Readers' Choice) Awards in 2010. Face Off (2010) won a silver medal in the Moonbeam Young Adult: Mature Issues category. Breakaway was released in 2012. Wood Dragon Books relaunched the #jessiemachockeyseries in 2020 and published Shootout in 2021. Since then, Maureen has self-published a book of poetry, a YA Fantasy series, and a picture book.
