Sandy Marie Bonny

Sandy Marie Bonny is a Saskatoon-based writer, artist and earth scientist. Her writing has appeared in numerous academic and literary journals and anthologies, including Oberon Press' 2011 anthology, Coming Attractions 11, Grain Magazine, PrairieFire, EVENT, and the Douglas Review. Her story collection, The Sometimes Lake, published in 2012 (Thistledown Press), includes a CBC Literary award-winning story, mandala, and was shortlisted for a Saskatchewan First Book Award. A novel,Yes, and Back Again (2015, Thistledown Press) twins family secrets across historical and contemporary plotlines within the familiar background of Saskatoon's central neighbourhoods.

"Sandy's stories are crystal windows into novel territories... these subtle skillful tales have crisp and new flavors; they yield discovery upon discovery. The Sometimes Lake is a powerful debut collection."
— Fred Stenson

"Yes, and Back Again is a tale haunted by unanswered questions... lit by the forces of love, compassion, and community.” Leona Theis

"Fans of contemporary short fiction should certainly be interested in The Sometimes Lake—a fine balance of profound humanity interacting with the wonders of the world.” Chad Pelley, The Telegraph Journal.

"I didn’t know Yes, and Back Again was going to be that kind of book. I picked it up in the evening, intending to read only the first ten pages or so, then planned to devote the following day to it. Well, I finally put it down on page 110, and only because it was hours past my bedtime. This novel swept me up like the roaring South Saskatchewan River snatches debris off banks in the springtime..." — Shelly A Leedhal, SK Book Reviews
