Tanya Reimer

Born and raised in the heart of Saskatchewan, Tanya finds inspiration in the tranquil prairies as a setting for her not-so-peaceful speculative fiction. Armed with the magical abilities of a parent, she can locate a lost tooth in a park of sand and ward off bedtime monsters with a mere whisper.

As the former director of a vibrant, non-profit Francophone community center, Tanya championed French programming and services for all ages, fostering her beloved Francophone community’s growth and cultural imprint. Among her favourite duties were guiding teens on social media safety and offering one-on-one tech classes to seniors, proving that learning is a lifelong adventure.

Tanya’s community spirit shines brightly through her numerous volunteer roles over the years, such as teaching eReader classes, serving as president of the Ladies Guild, managing finances as treasurer of the Cemetery Board, and steering the Library Board as its chair. Her passion for storytelling extends beyond fiction; she contributed to various newspapers, published the local Francophone newsletter, and shared life’s musings on her blog, “Life’s Like That.”

While director at the French Cultural Center, Tanya guided students in creating their first yearbooks and collaborated on seven bilingual community magazines. These magazines chronicled the community’s historical journey, offering readers a storyline that began with the arrival of the first pioneers, the establishment of the parish, and the preservation of French education, to the development of services, buildings, and the stories behind local monuments. The series culminates with an overview magazine and one that highlights the dedicated people and their stories. Naturally, no series of magazines would be complete without an accompanying activities book, which Tanya developed in collaboration with a talented summer student.

Now a full-time grant writer, Tanya expertly navigates the complexities of researching and writing grants. In her spare time, she writes under a pen name, exploring new genres.

Tanya’s literary journey began at fifteen with her first column, and she later earned a diploma in Journalism and Short Story Writing. Her significant published works in speculative fiction span historical fiction, sci-fi, and magical fantasies and include:

  • Programmed to Breathe (Elsewhen Press)
  • Cursed on the Prairies, a Sacred Land Story (Elsewhen Press)
  • Legends on the Prairies, a Sacred Land Story (Elsewhen Press)
  • Can’t Dream Without You, from the Dark Chronicles (Elsewhen Press)
  • Ghosts on the Prairies, a Sacred Land Story (Elsewhen Press)
  • Petrified (Sunbury Press)
  • Forbidden Fruit - a short story in Existence is Elsewhen Anthology (Elsewhen Press)
  • The In-Between - a short story published by Solstice Publishing

Best Author 2017 was awarded to Tanya Reimer by Critters/Preditors & Editors Readers’ Polls Award. Many thanks to the readers and fans who made that happen. With every word she pens, Tanya continues to enchant readers and leave a magical mark on the many worlds of speculative fiction.
