The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild is pleased to announce the recipient of the Judy McCrosky Bursary, which provides an emerging Saskatchewan writer with program fees for one week’s retreat and is awarded at both the Winter and Summer Retreats.

Cat C. Haines is an autistic and transsexual dyke, an academic/artist/activist weirdo, and the author of “Trans Feminist Self Help Zine: Volume 0” with Graviton, in which she critically examines her post-surgically constructed body and sexuality. Cat’s interdisciplinary work is grounded in a trans-feminist analysis of power, dyke politics of liberation, and an auto-theoretical drive that seeks to ironically (miss-)interpret second-wave feminist texts towards trans liberation. Cat has an MA in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Regina and is a mentee in the CARFAC Sask Art Writing Mentorship program.

Cat will be working on a new manuscript, Trans Feminist Self Help Zine: Volume 1, which explores transsexual joy and pleasure through a mixture of poetry and prose. She also hopes to get some rest.

The SWG’s Winter 2025 Writers’ Retreats will be held at St. Peter’s Abbey in Muenster from February 14-28, 2025. More information about the retreats and these scholarships is available at https://skwriter.com/retreats/writer-and-artist-retreats.

Congratulations Cat!
