The SWG is now accepting applications for the Summer Writers' Retreats for the weeks of July 17-31, 2026.

Writers' Retreats are for established and practicing writers from Saskatchewan and other parts of Canada. Please note that these retreats are not teaching situations, but places where established and practicing writers of all genres are expected to work independently. Writers can choose to attend 1 or 2 weeks of retreats. Spaces are limited.

This retreat will be held in the Abbey Guestwing. All participants receive a private room with shared bathroom facilities and all meals for 7 days. Retreatants are responsible for their transportation to and from the retreats, but carpooling may be available.

Please note that artist studio space is no longer available at St. Peter’s Abbey. In recognition of this, writers are prioritized for these retreats.

Weekly Retreat fees cover all administration, private rooms and food costs for one week’s stay:

• SK-based SWG members: $475
• Out-of-province SWG members OR SK-based non-members: $575
• Out-of-province non-members: $675

Please note there is a non-refundable application fee of $30 due when submitting your application. There is a great deal of work that goes into the application process, and we appreciate your consideration if you need to cancel.

Scholarship and Bursary Opportunities

Our Summer Retreats have two scholarship/bursary opportunities for emerging writers:

• Judy McCrosky Bursary – one week’s fees for an emerging SK writer
• Anne Campbell Memorial Scholarship - $500 for an emerging SK writer working on poetry or short stories

The retreat application and scholarship/bursary application deadline is midnight Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
