Join the SWG and, in partnership with Wanuskewin Heritage Park, welcome Randy Morin. He will take us on a journey to talk about the healing aspects of the Cree language and culture to overcome fear and anxiety in these uncertain times that we face as humanity.

Presenter Biography

Randy Morin is a language keeper from the Big River First Nation, which is located on Treaty 6 territory. He holds a B.A. in Indigenous Studies (University of Regina), B.Ed. (University of Saskatchewan), and M.Ed. in Indigenous Language Revitalization (University of Victoria). He is a lifelong learner of Plains Cree traditions and is a fluent speaker of the nehiyaw Cree language. He shares his knowledge as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Saskatchewan, teaching nêhiyawêwin/Cree language.

He is an accomplished author of four Cree Children’s books and one Cree survival phrase book, with more books forthcoming. He actively supports language revitalization efforts across Canada and also co-directs the nêhiyawak Language Experience (nLE). He is a highly sought-after Plains Cree translator with various organizations, as well as being a speaker with the International Indigenous Speakers Bureau (IISB). He has also contributed to many language projects and initiatives, including co-creating Cree apps and working on Cree animation series such as Wapos Bay (Seasons 1-5), The Guardians (Seasons 1-3), and Chums (Seasons 1-3). He also voiced the Cree for the documentary Wilfred Buck in 2025. He is currently working on APTN’s newest documentary called Searchers, where he is narrating it both in Cree and English.

Randy has also been a dedicated role model, and he has maintained his sobriety since 2002. He maintains a healthy lifestyle through ceremonies, travel, outdoor activities, sports, and time with family and friends.
