First Draft: Conversations on Writing is an online talk series that dives into themes that affect our writing lives. Writing helps us to understand things and to communicate these findings to our audience, even if our audience is ourselves. Sometimes we are driven by these themes, other times they’re the things that hold us back – what we learn through the process can be revolutionary. The quest to be understood unifies all writers.
This event features a 15-minute talk presented by Leah Horlick, around the theme of rejections. Following the talk is an interview conversation with Meredith Hambrock to dig deeper into the theme.
Participants are welcome to submit questions in advance of the event to swgevents@skwriter.com.
Redirected: Coping with and considering rejection for writers
Join poet Leah Horlick and Saskatoon Public Library Writer-in-Residence Meredith Hambrock for this practical and refreshing conversation on an infamous constant of the writing life. Leah will explore traditional and unorthodox approaches to coping with rejection for both emerging and established writers, and she'll share a few honest stories of real-life writing rejections and teachable personal moments. Leah and Meredith are working writers and past MFA colleagues who have published extensively in different forms, so listeners will get a fulsome sense from both these authors about how rejection functions across career stages and disciplines. We'll have something for everyone!
