Opening Doors Through Stories: Family

Opening Doors Through Stories: Family

Do you have a story to tell? Do you like to write poetry? This workshop will help you get your story published in English. No prior experience is needed. Join professional author Marie Powell for four Thursday evening workshops, using writing prompts and exercises to write short stories, creative nonfiction, and/or poetry. Marie will give one-on-one feedback and edit your work to be published in a special chapbook: Opening Doors Through Stories: Family. This series is a partnership between the Regina Open Door Society and the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild and is intended for Newcomers to Canada living in Regina.

Workshop facilitator and chapbook editor:

Marie Powell’s castle-hopping adventures across North Wales resulted in her medieval fantasy duology, Spirit Sight (Last of the Gifted: Book 1) and Water Sight (Book 2), set in 13th C Wales. In 2026, Lilac Arch Press will publish her newest picture book, Garden Song. She’s also the author of 40+ children’s books, short stories, poetry, and over a million words (she stopped counting) of nonfiction and journalism. This is her fourth year as editor of Opening Doors Through Stories. Marie lives on Treaty 4 Territory in Regina, where she experiments in gardening, medieval cooking, and cat whispering.
