You, A Muse for Poetry

Join Saskatchewan Poet Laureate Peace Akintade-Oluwagbeye for a night of poetry writing and muse-creation.  Saskatoon poets Peace Akintade-Oluwagbeye, Danielle Richardson and Isaac Bond invite the public to come to Sparrow Coffee between 6:00-8:30 to participate in a poetry writing showcase. Each poet will be stationed to sit and write you poetry. Based on Peace’s performance art practice, Collective One-Self, the night will have prompts, poetry games and art for you to peruse.

By the end of the night, you’ll leave with a personalized poem, a poetry prompt and a mini-appreciation gift bag.

This event is free and open to the public. Food and drink are available for purchase. Please note there is limited seating: first come, first served. For more info about Sparrow Coffee, check out https://www.sparrowcoffee.ca/

Our Poets:

Peace Akintade-Oluwagbeye is an African-Canadian Interdisciplinary Poet, Public Speaker, Chorus-Poem Playwright, and Thespian residing in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Organically from Yorubaland, Nigeria, Peace explores the intersectionality of the artist community from an explorer's perspective, dipping her honey-stained fingers into poetry, dance, performance art, critical research, and the theatre world. She is the 11th Poet Laureate of Saskatchewan from Aug 1, 2024, until July 31, 2026.

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Isaac Bond has been involved with Saskatchewan literature and live music for decades. From regular shows like Tonight it's Poetry to projects such as Crabstyle and BoomBoxers, his presence on stage is a force. In 2013, he founded the Write Out Loud Poetry collective, which continues to deliver youth focused programming to this day. Known for his spontaneous rhythm and relatable insight, he'd be delighted to write a poem about you.

Danielle Richardson is a queer spoken word poet, Canadian national poetry slam champion, independent theatre creator, and community organizer. A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan MFA in Writing program, her writing can be found in untethered, oratorealis, Folklore, and Poetry All Over the Floor. Richardson, with three collaborators, published Prairie Girl Collective with Party Trick Press which was also released as an audio album with American Radio Cassette. Richardson is the spoken word poetry editor of Arc Poetry Magazine. She lives with her partner, child, and cat in Saskatoon.
