Raye Hendrickson grew up in Aylsham, Saskatchewan, and has lived in Regina for most of her adult life. Her work as a Registered Massage Therapist has given her great delight for over 20 years. Raye has loved words her whole life, and began writing poetry in the 1990s. She completed the SWG Mentorship Program with poet Barbara Klar in 2005. Writing allows her to inhabit the inner workings of our bodies and spirit, and the outer reaches of space. Her poems explore the intricacies of relationships, and the mysteries and curiosities of science and nature. Her first book of poetry, Five Red Sentries, was released by Thistledown Press in May 2019 and was shortlisted for two 2020 Saskatchewan Book Awards.
How often does your writing celebrate who you are? Sometimes it’s not easy to articulate the special things about ourselves. It may feel too boastful, too ego-centric. But what if being brave about speaking the good things about yourselves gives you courage to delve into the stuff you aren’t so happy about?
This workshop will help you get personal with yourself, and confident in how you celebrate yourself. Get ready to embrace your own awesomeness!
Are you feeling an urge, an itch, to share things about your life but aren’t sure why you should, or how to start? This workshop will help you gain confidence in telling your particular story.
Through a variety of writing exercises, you will discover why it is important that you write about your life. You will identify what people need to hear from you. You will discover ways of telling your personal stories through creative writing.
How is your body involved in your writing? Do you notice sensations other than the need to get up and walk or stretch for a mini-break? This workshop is for you if you want to gain experiential insight into how your body can be a partner in your writing.
Using the structure of the four elements (Earth, Water, Fire, and Air) you will explore the energy each element brings to your body through short non-athletic movement practices. You will have an interval of quiet time for writing, choosing one element and bringing its embodiment to your writing. We will close with a time of discussion and sharing.
