I love retirement because it enables me to write and paint full-time. Trying to do it in the non-existent spare time didn't work very well while working. I graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and taught elementary classes here and in Alberta while raising four children. Since the beginning of time, even before retirement, I've had stories published in the Western Producer. During the pandemic I compiled a social history of prairie life on the farm, adding stories of my parents' and grandparents' lives hoping to make it more interesting. It is now published thanks to Amazon under the title Lilacs by the Kitchen Door. I've also self-published a small book of poetry which includes a few of my mother's poems but most are mine. I called this book 2 Women 2 Generations 26 Poems. I continue writing Canadian history stories and the occasional poem. Saskatchewan history articles have found their way into Folklore magazine. Watercolour painting takes second place in my week, but I love it just as much as writing. Some paintings have been turned into cards and are sold in McNally Robinson's bookstore. Life is full of surprises if you follow your passion.
