Simon Garez is a filmmaker who works in French and English. Raised in Nipawin, he holds a BFA from Simon Fraser University and a diploma from the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts.
His directorial debut, Torch Narrows (2021), won the SIFA awards for Best Short Film and Best Technical Achievement. His second short, Gentle Hum of Spring (2022), was selected for Telefilm’s Not Short on Talent program at Clermont-Ferrand and won the awards for Best Saskatchewan Short at RIFFA and Best Canadian Short at Cinéma sous les étoiles. His work examines rural life and humanity's interactivity to its ecological environment.
Alongside his art practice, Simon works with bees and honey production.
