The SWG is now accepting applications for the February 2024 Winter Writer/Artist Retreat held at St. Peter’s Abbey in Muenster, SK from February 9-23, 2024.

Writer and Artist Retreats are for established and practicing writers and artists from Saskatchewan and other parts of Canada. Please note that these retreats are not teaching situations, but places where established and practicing writers of all genres are expected to work independently. Writers can choose to attend 1 or 2 weeks of retreats. Spaces are limited.

The Winter 2024 Retreats will be held in the Abbey Guestwing. All participants receive a private room with shared bathroom facilities and all meals for 7 days. Retreatants are responsible for their transportation to and from the retreats, but carpooling may be available.

Weekly Retreat fees cover all administration, private rooms and food costs for one week’s stay:

• SK-based SWG members: $425
• Out-of-province SWG members OR SK-based non-members: $525
• Out-of-province non-members: $625
• Studio fees for visual artists: $100 per week in addition to the week’s rate above

NEW this year – a non-refundable application fee of $30, due when submitting your application. There is a great deal of work that goes into the application process and we appreciate your consideration if you need to cancel.

Scholarship and Bursary Opportunities

Our Winter Retreats have two scholarship/bursary opportunities for attending writers:

• Judy McCrosky Bursary - pays one week’s fee for an emerging Saskatchewan writer
• John V. Hicks Scholarship - provides $300 to a mid-career Saskatchewan writer working on poetry for a two-week stay
